===================================================

Mozilla is a diverse community; and of late, it's too diverse for the ecosystem-elements even to keep strong bonds with each other.

We have too many projects trying to get people involved in many ways (MDN, l10n, ReMo, SuMo, Army-of-Awesomeness, Local Communities - you name it) which is good indeed, but what is lacking is the inter-maintainability of all these contributor engagement programs.

So, here comes the project "Minions" (yeah, The Despicable Us!) - an ultimate common gateway interface (ahem!) for all those user/contributor-engagement projects - so that, no newcomers are lost within the vastness of what we've made our system to grow into.
I definitely agree that there is a lot going on in the Mozilla universe now and it can be hard to make it easy to understand and easy to find what interests you. I also agree that we need to help people navigate all of this information in better ways.

We must be thinking along the same lines since I blogged about this yesterday :)

IMO, the www.mozilla.org site should be a series of gateways to different parts of the project. For instance, I've been trying to make the Get Involved pages a gateway to all contribution opportunities.

I'd be interested to hear more about your ideas around a gateway. You mention a focus on a gateway to user/contributor-engagement projects, so a great thing to do could be to help update and migrate the Community Marketing Guide at

http://guides.mozilla.org/Marketing

That's out of date (it talks about launching Firefox 3.6) and needs to be moved (since the guides.mozilla.org site is going to be closed) so helping with that would be great.

If that doesn't match with your idea, please feel free to give more details about what you're thinking.
Isn't the community map supposed to be a gateway?

Moved to Marketing General component, following a clean up of Mozilla Communities product
Component: Contributor Engagement → General
Product: Mozilla Communities → Marketing
I think CBT is doing great high-level work & we now have a fairly neat contribute page that resolves many of the issues which were the prime motivations for this project.

I don't think we need this any more.

But, Minions! :-/
