Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0.1
Build ID: 20110928134238

Steps to reproduce:

Right-click on main level RSS folder name, select "Get Messages".

Actual results:

Nothing.

Expected results:

All subfolders and their subfolders should have updated. Instead, I have to go to each folder and manually right-click to select "Get Messages", then they update. That's a whole lot of clicking.

Works for me:
User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20110929 Thunderbird/7.0.1
Build ID: 20110929042316
Anything in Tools-> Error console ?
I found a workaround, and my RSS folders are all now updating. I had to into each individual sub-folder, right-click, and update it. After doing so, all folders are now updating properly.

In case it matters, my folders are 3 layers deep:
RSS / news / 1, 2, 3, 4...
RSS / blogs / 1, 2, 3, 4...
etc.
I think I'm seeing the same issue.

Using Thunderbird 7 on Windows XP 32 bit, a number of RSS feeds in sub folders. When I start Thunderbird (with the option to update feeds on startup set like it has been since forever) a number of the sub-foldered feeds do not reliably update. If I click an individual feed and do Get Mail then it does update.

I think that theres another workaround that seems to work for me and thats to select the top level "Blogs and News Feeds", do File->Compact Folders and then do a Get Mail on the "Blogs and News Feeds" that seems to bring all the feeds up to date and avoids some frustration and clicking around on each individual feed.

No such issue with TBird 3.0.10 on my Fedora 12 (32 bit) box so I think that this is new with TBird 5 and up.

I think I checked the Error console and didn't see anything obvious but I might be confusing that console check with something else. I'll look next time I notice this happening.

Just a correction to my comment above (comment #1): when you choose "Get Messages" in "Blog & News Feeds" you get all feeds updated. But when you go to one RSS feed folder and press "Get Messages", update doesn't happen for its sub-folders.

So, the only work-around is to select (using CTRL + mouse Left-click) the feeds you want updated then press "Get Messages".
there are 2 issues here:
- manually getting messages on a subfolder only got them if the selected folder had a feed and only for that folder's feed (fixed in Tb12 to get all descendent folder's feeds)
- folders with their .msf files needing a rebuild would not get messages, a select was needed to do the rebuild and then things would work (fixed in Tb13 to autorepair .msf).
