Steps to reproduce:

Go to http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap111019.html. Move mouse over the sky image.

Actual results:

Entire browser window flashes like crazy. Using FF 7.0.1 on Mac OS X.7.2.

Expected results:

Detail should appear to be added on the image.

Works fine using Safari and Chrome.
Works fine on Win XP. Constellation drawings appear on the sky image. Javascript has to be enabled.
Has this worked for you in older versions of Firefox?

Can you try disabling HW acceleration in Options->Advanced->General ?
Thanks for checking. This sight has done this overlay effect before and I don't recall ever seeing this problem. But maybe they used a different technique. For example, this page http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap110903.html and here http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap110716.html still works fine. Turning off HW acceleration had no effect.

BTW: I first tried reporting this using your page at http://input.mozilla.com/en-US/feedback/#sad but when I click "Submit feedback" nothing happens. The URL on that button is just http://input.mozilla.com/en-US/feedback/# which looks suspicious.
