Details

After updating to Mozilla 0.8 (Build ID: 2001021503), I noticed that after some time of running Mozilla, the cursor keys are dead in some other applications. Instead of that, the numeric keypad is working in cursor mode, no matter if num lock is turned on or off. Strange is that it always hits the same few programs (as NEdit ( http://www.nedit.org ), or HTML form elements on Netscape 4), while other programs are still working fine. Also, it is not immediately after Mozilla was started, but only after using it for a while. Anyhow it hits me nearly every day, and is very annoying. I haven't found a way to reproduce it yet. I don't know what triggers it. I got that problem on two different machines. One with RedHat 7.0 installation, the other with SuSE 6.2. Downgrading to Mozilla 0.7 but keeping the 0.8 configurations didn't help at all. Also, creating a new ~/.mozilla directory from scratch for 0.8 didn't help. I think it is a Mozilla bug because it was the only program I updated on both machines. Before that, everything was fine. My current workaround: using numeric keypad or restarting the X server.

Additional note: I am using Gnome on both machines. On SuSE, a rather old Gnome version and Enlightenment. On RedHat, Helix Gnome and Sawfish. I couldn't reproduce the bug yet on other machines running IceWM or KDE.
Reporter any luck reporoducing recently?
I must confess I haven't updated to V0.8.1 yet because I heard from a coworker that select boxes in HTML forms do not work at all. I still don't have anything new on this bug and Mozilla V0.8. It is still that cursor keys are working fine unless a while after I started Mozilla. There MUST be something that triggers that behaviour, but I still cannot put my finger on it. :-( I first suspected that opening a page with a HTML form disables the cursor keys, but that assumption proved to be wrong. Anyhow, I was able to get the cursor keys working again without restarting the X server, by a lucky chance. Just by starting a very old version of NEdit. After that, the cursor keys worked flawlessy again in all applications. Reproduceable. PS: I meanwhile updated one machine to SuSE 7.1, still using Gnome but also moved to Sawfish. Didn't help at all.
It seems to be fixed on M0.9 (BID 2001050521). :-)
