Steven, this bug is to implement a single-question survey powered by survey gizmo on the mozilla.org home page. Since you just did this with Laura F. I was hoping you could guide me a little bit. Do you need a survey gizmo login or should I pull the code into the bug.

David Boswell did this about a year ago http://davidwboswell.wordpress.com/2010/04/08/what-are-people-looking-for-on-mozilla-org/

What works best for you?
We could do essentially what we did for the previous survey - insert the survey into the page for a designated percentage of visitors.

Do you have the question/answers ready? The sample size?

Steven,

The survey is updated and in Survey Gizmo, under "What brings you to Mozilla"

JS: <iframe src="http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/iframe/658791/231f6878b549" frameborder="0" width="700" height="500" style="overflow:hidden"></iframe>

Sample size: let's do every other visitor
Run from 4.8 and take down with 4.9 (one week)

Ping back if you need anything else. Thanks!

For the sake of time, the quickest/easiest thing to do here would be to just add a prominent link to the survey (maybe in the top right of the page, but below the header).

I expect that integrating the survey directly into the page would generate more response though - that would just take more time to implement.

Chrissie, John, do you have a preference? (quicker/dumber vs. slower/nicer)

Steven, let's go with quicker & dumber and see what kind of results we get!
+1 for quick & dumb as well, although we should monitor the responses and look toward a plan B if we're not getting the level of input we need.

Thanks!

Will something like this work (position/style/wording/etc.)?

Brilliant :-) Good to go.
This is implemented in trunk in r98449. Since this is the .org home page, the change will be live shortly (no push needed).

Hey Steven, fast and dirty hasn't quite worked (only two responses to date). Reopening to do the more sophisticated integration for visitors.

If you can't complete before the holiday, can you reassign to James or Fred with instructions? Many thanks!

I'm not sure how many responses are required for garner meaningful conclusions, but the survey with two replies is just a test/dev survey I setup. I probably should have removed that one from the system.

The actual survey linked to on the page is also in SurveyGizmo (further down in the list on the Dashboard, title is "Quick Survey: What brings you to mozilla.org?).

This survey has about 1,700 responses so far.
