Details

Sync should have options like "enable/disable automatic syncing","turn on/off Sync", "Upload data to Sync Server"and "Download data to this device". The last two options could add further options in a prompt window, "replace Sync Server data with uploaded data"/"replace device data with downloaded data,"Merge Sync data with uploaded Data"/"Merge Device data with downloaded Data" and "Always Remember this Setting". These are examples of what Sync can do in the future.

We actually had most of those options in early prototypes. We found that it made Sync more confusing to end users, and actually led to a lot of mismatched expectations. We are continually moving towards a fully-automatic and close to real time implementation of Sync, and we do not plan to change course at this time due to the added complexity of maintaining divergent code around different behaviours.
