We're planning to bring back the What's New page during this time. This is the placeholder bug to build and launch that page.
Depends on: 698853
Depends on: 698854
Launch date of Fx9 is 12/20 - putting this in 4.10 release in case assets are ready to go then. (fx9 launches on the 4.11 release, the following week).
Assignee: nobody → steven
Target Milestone: --- → 4.10
Target Milestone: 4.10 → 4.11
Depends on: 708404
Also when implementing please use the video view tags in Bug 709987. Thanks!
A reminder that Fx9 is launching next Tuesday morning, 12/20. Lets make sure this is ready to launch that morning or before.
This page is implemented in trunk:

http://www-dev.allizom.org/en-US/firefox/9.0/whatsnew/

A few notes:

The main page title will not say the "Horray! Your Firefox is up to date." until the product-details library gets the updated 9.0 release number.

The video tracking from Bug 708404 isn't implemented yet. Waiting on a question from Brad.

Looking good. Just noticing that the following line isn't looking great against the orange background (especially the link):

"For security reasons, we recommend upgrading to the latest and greatest version."

Sean, Lee, any ideas?

Nice catch. It's definitely hard to read.
Sorry, one more thing. Just noticed that on Lee's mockup the Firefox logo on the left overlaps with the white box a bit more than it does in trunk:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=698854#c27
Hey all,

Yeah that line should be in white and the link color should be a lighter blue. The current hue of blue used is too close to the orange and they're fighting. They're complimentary colours, but they fight like an old married couple.

I'll update these colors, but in normal use, this line won't exist on the page (it will just say, "Horray! Your Firefox is up to date!" with no sub-heading).
Hey Steven, there are also vertical dashed dots separating the 3 pods below the video in my mockup. They may be hard to spot but wanted to flag because I don't see them on staging.
One other thing here, could we have the background match http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/8.0/firstrun/ ? No need for the bgs to be different as it is the same campaign mosaic.

Thanks!
Fixed the white sub-heading, the vertical dotted lines (thanks for catching that), and the logo/white-box overlap.

Will stay tuned for any changes based on Sean's questions on Bug 698854.

It's nice to see this page in staging.

Can we make line breaks to the copy after:

"...and security."
and
"...to compromise."

I think the body copy reads better that way.
Linking here for reference: http://cl.ly/34173A0p2M0j3y3Z2s2p
Another tweak now that this is on staging:

If possible please move the footer "release notes, help, etc" to the upper right instead of center, like we do on our current What's New pages.

Done in trunk. That does help.

Made a slide adjustment in size/position of these that I think should address lforrest's concern, but kept them centered, as discussed on IRC.

Looks great, but I'm getting "Hooray! Your Firefox is up to date" no matter what I open the page in — Aurora, Chrome & Safari. Is there a reason it isn't detecting versions like it was in trunk?
Steven is on vacation. Are you sure it's happening on trunk? You can still test it at the www-dev URL.

What's new pages are never seen except for a specific version, and I don't think we've ever done version checks on it.

The dev link isn't working for me anymore, but it said "Your Firefox is out of date" at the top.

Maybe that's fine, then. I wasn't sure. LoFo, what do you think?

I can confirm that this page is supposed to do version detection. The upper headline has three different states: up to date, not up to date, and a other (when it can't detect). Since this is the page people see at the end of their update experience, that headline is the primary function of this page; it's why it exists.

Raymond - can you verify if the headline functionality is broken or not?
