We're planning to bring back the What's New page during this time. This is the placeholder bug to design that page.

Live Date: 12/19
Assets Due Date: 12/6
Blocks: 698850
Thanks Laura, please update asap with more context and content direction :)
Assigning to Lee, for now.

Here's a sampling of our recent WN pages (includes FR as well) for reference: http://www.flickr.com/photos/29142435@N08/sets/72157627271263053/detail/

Also, is the intention here to reinvent the page? or is this a bug to update the template with new content?

Update template with new content, not reinvent.
Hey guys, seems like we're nearing our design due date. LoFo, when you get a chance can you please update this bug so Lee can get started? Thanks.
A update here with more content around the Q4 brand campaign now that those assets have been created.

We've created this new visual design for the current brand campaign: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=695465

And have a new arsenal of great copy to pull from.

Let's combine the two to create a great new What' New page for Fx9.

Timing Update:

Live date: still 12/19
Assets Due: 12/14
More direction based on our meeting this morning:

Graphics:
-Incorporate existing First Run graphics onto this general template
-Main CTA is to watch the video
-Include a learn more link
-Keep social media module

You mean the new orange photo-based version, right? Just making sure.

> -Main CTA is to watch the video
> -Include a learn more link
> -Keep social media module

We should keep the newsletter signup too.

Here's a mockup to get a feel of the page with new orange style, available space for copy, and flow of content. The video cap is FPO, of course.
Whatever happens next, we need to use that photo for sure.
Dude. LOVE THAT PHOTO!

I like it!

I think this is great, and visually matches well with the rest of this campaign. This is ready to be thrown over to Matej for the copy.
Lee - One change I just noticed. Can you use the collage background on this page, like we do on the /new page?

Nevermind - it is being used, just not showing up on my monitor for some reason. It will be on the final page.
Lee - as discuss please add a sub-headline to this page. Merci!

New mockup attached here:

Things you will see
- Functional "Your FF is up to date" copy
- Different by Design headline and subcopy + "Learn more."
- Firefox brand video as hero image/CTA
- I'm still trying to resolve the Social pod on the bottom right
Coming along well, thanks Lee.

Any other feedback out there before we finish this?
Yes - just a couple small tweaks and we'll be done:

1. Change Affiliates to "Join Mozilla". Affiliates is important, but not entirely consumer facing (you have to touch code to deploy), and Join Mozilla matches this overarching campaign objective and tone more. I'm happy to discuss further if people think otherwise.

2. Use the footer we currently use on the What's New page: Release Notes, Firefox Features, Help shown here: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/7.0/whatsnew/ Remove the "tour, desktop, mobile..." line.

Thanks!

We had changed "Join Mozilla" to "FF Affiliates" at the end of last week. Not sure if the reasoning has reverted bc of the /firefox VS. .org discussion. (Refer back to comment 11 if you want to see that in context). My file is set up for either one, so let me know.

No problem - I can make the change. FYI, when I went to this page - the layout was a bit goofed up: http://cl.ly/3d1i2d2t2J3j0p2M0V1m

Sorry, that was my suggestion. I just felt like Affiliates is something we've been using more often and trying to push more lately than Join.

Also, I was having a hard time coming up with a header for that section that would work with all three (and use the work "keep" again), since Join doesn't really fit with Twitter and Facebook. Affiliates felt like a better fit with social things.

Does any one of these options work for people for Twitter, Facebook and Join?

Keep it social
Keep it going
Keep it close
Keep it friendly
I like "Keep it going"
(In reply to Lee Tom from comment #20)
> I like "Keep it going"

I like it, too, I just don't think it fits with Join. Maybe I'm overthinking?
I think it works too (so yes, you're probably overthinking).

I think it works too - by joining you're helping the movement move forward, etc. Bonus points for attention to details!
Only comment is that "speed, flexiblity, security" is really hidden in the copy of the page.

Can we bold it or highlight it in another way? Maybe breaking up the copy at the top by pushing it below the video?
Attached image whats new - firefox 9
Attaching a new mockup here.

- highlighted "speed, flexibility and security." in body copy
- "Keep it going" social pod title
- Join Mozilla » link in social pod
- What's New footer links (I left Privacy Policy and Legal Notices links on there, but let me know if we'd like to remove these)
Thanks Lee!

It's okay to leave out PP and Legal Notes. Please remove. More simple the better.

Also - can you format the bottom links like what's on the current What's New page here? http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/7.0/whatsnew/ Meaning, aligned right, italics?

After that we'll be good to go.

Hey Laura - I formatted the footer the same as your link above, but thought it looked a bit odd justifying right. Here's another mockup with it center justified. I think this looks better for this page, since everything else is treated centered justified. Let me know if this works, and I'll post the PSD. thx!

Lee, a new consideration for this design that I should have brought up earlier:

On the somewhat similar layout for the 8.0 firstrun page, we've switched to a flexible-width layout since sometimes the browser seems to start up with a narrow window:

http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/8.0/firstrun/

The only real issue with this design is the three sub-feature items in the box near the bottom (the three "Keep..." items). I could make them wrap onto two lines, but this will look a bit odd in that light colored box. Any ideas, or do you want me to go ahead and implement and you can take a look?

I just spoke with Steven about this and we figured that given our time constraints, he'll fix the size of the page for launch. We can revisit the page in a new bug to make the links are responsive, later. Tara, I think you can close the bug again if no one else has anything to add.
thanksss

Hey all,

Sorry I've been heads down on .org and other things, but just wondering why we've strayed from the First Run layout for this page? http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/8.0/firstrun/ I thought based on the initial meeting that we were going with the same layout?

We had specific instruction to have the logo + wordmark top left for that and I think What's New should have it as well. They should basically have the same structure, but for now can we make the backgrounds match? No need for a recut and loading of another image there. Same campaign, same mosaic bg.

Waiting to for a response to confirm if layouts should match here.

Should this be over on the implement bug too?

Thanks!

I should note, if we don't need the wordmark included with the logo here as was initially requested, just changing the background image to match should be fine - I mentioned that in the implementation bug.

Hmmm...I'm not familiar with those formatting directions. As far as I know the What's New page has always had a short layout due to it's pop-up nature, as Lee designs for here.

In terms of content, we want to use the main brand campaign content and apply it to this page, which only current users see, instead of new users, like on What's New.
I'm assuming this is complete? Since its going out tomorrow?
(In reply to Laura Mesa [:lmesa] [:lvmesa] from comment #36)
> I'm assuming this is complete? Since its going out tomorrow?

Yes - we're set for the launch. See the implementation bug here bug 698850.

Sean - Anything else here? We can always modify this page while it's live if you think there are ways to improve on the existing layout. Closing for now.
