I don't know why this was moved into the phonebook component.

The original bug wfm in mozillians.  See non-square photos in https://mozillians.org/en-US/search?q=beards.

FWIW, there are plenty of other problems, like a flash of unstyled content on every pageload and the use of img size for thumbnailing (?!).

This is the Mozillians Phonebook component, not the internal phonebook. Mozillians is an ecosystem of tools so keeping everything in one component didn't make sense.

Feel free to file bugs in this product/component! ;) (Community Tools/Phonebook)
