Ferdinand, please also quote exactly the full error message. And, is this just an error message you get on startup but Thunderbird works (except for the language)? Or is it really a hang or a crash?
Summary: Thunderbird crashes when German language pack enabled → Thunderbird crashes when German language pack enabled. Startup error copyMenuitem
Likely not a crash. Ferdinand, is enigmail installed? (rpm -q enigmail) If so, do you get the same error when you remove it (rpm -e enigmail)?
Keywords: crash
Just verified that it's not caused by enigmail. And the above _is_ the full error message in a yellow xul error box: "<menuitem id="copyMenuitem" As this is happening with an openSUSE build I'll investigate further but no idea yet what in the language pack would cause the issue.
This is an openSUSE (my) packaging issue. Fix will be delivered through openSUSE channels. Stay tuned.

This bug has obviously been fixed today. The German language pack is working now. Many thanks to the developers.
