Description

Instead of showing an error message in the video player for users who don't have Flash, we can show a pre-recorded video of the red panda cubs in open video (and mp4 too).

This video clip would be shown in the same video container and only for users who don't have Flash support. Therefore, there are no design or L10n considerations for this enhancement.

The webm version is already at:
http://videos.mozilla.org/serv/firefoxlive/Webcam%20Highlight%20Reel%20Final.webm

mp4 version (should be uploaded to
http://videos.mozilla.org/serv/firefoxlive/ ):
http://people.mozilla.com/~williamr/firefoxlive/Webcam%20Highlight%20Reel%20Final.mp4

ogv version (should be uploaded to
http://videos.mozilla.org/serv/firefoxlive/ ):
http://people.mozilla.com/~williamr/firefoxlive/Webcam%20Highlight%20Reel%20Final.ogv

Steven, could we try to have this bug resolved and on production next week?

We're starting to see more people talk about how there's no Flash fallback, so I'd love to have the video from comment 0 added soon. Thanks!

It doesn't look like the Ooyala API offers a way to present fall-back content when Flash (or the appropriate version of Flash) aren't available. We'll have to see if we can work out this logic on our end.

Hi Steven, any update on this? Christian H (cc'd on the bug) can help with the logic on our end too - he offered the sample code in comment 0 and is familiar with fallback techniques for video. Thanks!

We're looking at this today. Pardon the lack of updates. It's a mad dash for Firefox 9 release work.

Done in trunk. Ready for QA (and then push to production).
