Is there a spec for this bug?

My interpretation is that it is for displaying avatar icons in places like the "Contributors to this page" area on articles. This idea came up recently WRT the redesign, and making MDN seem more friendly and people-oriented.

If so, I suggest suppressing display of the avatar if the user doesn't have one, rather than show a blank default icon (e.g., just have a text link instead), because there are a lot of profiles that don't currently have avatars.
I think using gravatar icons for "Contributors to this page" is a really bad idea. For loading speed (a reminder: we are are very very very slow) and for usage of the page! Some pages, and among them basic ones, have about 100 contributors. 100 images shown at the bottom will be distracting.

We should just not add things like this without talking first.
I vote wontfix here.
I'd like to get the average and median # of contributors per page before we wontfix this. Maybe we could show the first/top 5 contributors' gravatars or something.
Can we wontfix this based on the perf hit we'd take for so many images and since we're going to show the top contribs now?
Agreed. The "top contributors" feature will show gravatars (assuming that will be made to work), which will help achieve the goal of showcasing contributors. It's not necessary to show every one.
