Details

Using Nightly 11.0a1 (2011-11-18)

issue was also present in 2011-11-17

about:home loads successfully

Using the address bar or search bar to navigate to any http url (e.g. google.com) shows connecting/transferring etc in status bar but page does not change.

Navigating to a non http url works properly (ftp://, about:, file:///)
not present in Nightly 2011-11-16

present in Nightly 2011-11-17
WFM with latest nightly

Does the issue still occur if you start Firefox in Safe Mode? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode

How about with a new, empty profile? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic%20Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile

Please post the full user agent string for your build
issue occurs in safe mode, issue does not occur with an empty profile. So, my profile does not work with 11-16, but causes this issue with 11-17
the line from prefs.js causing this to occur:

user_pref("browser.cache.memory.enable", false);
Summary: http does not work → browser.cache.memory.enable false breaks http
maybe duplication of Bug 703374
