704101 - Firefox 8 on WinXP Location bar is transparent

Steps to reproduce:

I can not say. I was restoring my web search engines on the top right hand corner of FireFox. I did that with FireFox 7.0.1. I do not know what I did in order to mess up the Location bar.


Actual results:

The Location bar is now very transparent and I am not able to make it opaque. I searched for hours on the web - I even posted on the Mozilla Help page my problem to which I never got a reply.

Now I am running FireFox 8 on Windows XP SP3 and the entries in my Location Bar (drop down) are actually unreadable. There is no information or function anywhere that allows me to change this misbehaviour. See attached screen shot.

Please advise on how I can change the transparency in the Location bar as selecting the correct entry is now impossible. I always have to either enter the full URL or copy and paste it. This defeats somewhat the function of the Location bar.

If there is no advice available, then please add a function to the FireFox Options (Tools -> Options) that allows to change the transparency of the Location bar and it's drop down menu.

You might trying going to Safe Mode (see <http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode>) : there's an option to reset all your toolbars just before entering Safe Mode. Maybe that helps.

Otherwise, you can always create a new profile (<http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles>). You can recover the data (bookmarks, etc...) from your old profile.

No need to reset your toolbars or create a new profile -- chances are that you're using some misbehaving extension or theme.

Thanks for the updates. I am using the standard Theme. Do you need a list of extensions that I have installed or shall I just remove all extensions installed?

What if removing all extensions does not solve the issue?

You could repeatedly disable a subset of your extensions to narrow down the misbehaving one. Once you've figured it out, it would be ideal if you could report this bug to the extension's author.

Thanks for the suggestion. The issue has been resolved. It has been caused by the InstantFox v2.3.2 Add on. I have now uninstalled this Add-on.

Apparently "InstantFox Quick Search" is a featured add-on, so this seems bad...

The add-on has a setting to change the opacity of the dropdown.
