User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; rv:8.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/8.0.1 Build ID: 20111120135848 Steps to reproduce: Ran Update at the reminder page self launched by Firefox Actual results: During installation update from vers 7.0.1 to 8.0.1, install hung and required Task Manager to end the process after which the install continued when double click the Firefox Icon on the desktop Expected results: Install should have run right through.
Which process did you have to kill with the task manager?
Hi I killed the firefox.exe process. Took a punt on it as the PC had stalled, and then just launched the Firefox Icon on the desktop, and the install process finished itself and returned Firefox to where it was prior, opened all the tabs. It worked, all good so far.

Per comment #2 firefox.exe itself hung so this is a problem with a process hang during a restart and not the installer or updater. Moving over to Firefox -> General for further triage.
Component: Installer → General
QA Contact: installer → general
Summary: During installation update from vers 7.0.1 to 8.0.1, install hung and required Task Manager to end the process after which the install continued when double click the Firefox Icon on the desktop → The firefox.exe process didn't exit during a restart to update.
I haven't seen this issue in any Firefox update since in past couple of years on any of my computers. Since this was FF8 related, I suspect it was isolated to that instance, which is no longer supported.
