Automatic update to 8.0 switched off all extensions I've installed earlier, because FF supposes they were installed by third party software.

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:8.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/8.0.1 Build ID: 20111120135848 Steps to reproduce: Firefox was automatically updated from version 8.0 to 8.0.1 and restarted. Actual results: After FF is restarted I saw a lot of opened tabs. As I can conclude their number as the same as the number of installed extensions. Each tab said that "some program wants to add to Firefox some extension. it was switched off by default..." (see the screenshot attached). I clearly uderstand that these extensions were installed by myself (like Firebug, Fiddler and so on). But Firefox supposed that they were installed by some third party distribution software. Expected results: - In this case Firefox should clearly recognize which extensions were installed by user and which were installed by third party software. - Firefox should not annoy user by opening a so many tabs. I guess there should be olnly one dialogue with extensions list.

OK, this is strange. I didn't see the noted behavior with the profile I use with Firefox current with 8.0->8.01, but I did see this behavior with my Nightly profile when I went from 22->23 November build. (Both on Ubuntu, I haven't booted Windows today.)

Even more odd as Linux and Windows users were NOT suppose to get the update to Firefox 8.0.1 from 8.0.0, only Mac. Did try to auto-update on Firefox 8.0.0 Windows 7 to 8.0.1, but would not offer the update. I too have seen this though, I think on a Nightly as well a week or so ago when my 'default' profile got loaded into another build I normally use a different profile for.

But nonetheless yesterday I received notification that FF has got an update. And today I finally restarted browser and see this bug

I think this is another variation of bug 702506 but it's unclear from the log exactly what went wrong, though there are some interesting errors in there. I need to see if I can reproduce those effects from them.

I was wrong, it was Ubuntu finally updating to 8.0, not 8.0.1. I don't pay close attention to that version unless Nightly doesn't work. The attached log file was modified yesterday morning (22 November), probably the first time I started Nightly yesterday. The problems occurred today, during the second Nightly update after the last extensions.log entry. When installing a new version, do Firefox 8 and Nightly talk to Mozilla's servers to get information about extensions? Could a corrupted message from that contact have caused the symptoms?

I think this is definitely bug 702506, it saw the locked DB when starting yesterday and while everything would have looked ok during that run it forces a full refresh of the DB on the next startup which is where the problem would manifest. > When installing a new version, do Firefox 8 and Nightly talk to Mozilla's > servers to get information about extensions?
