When loading an .shtml file, static content is displayed, but the browser churns
forever and the embedded SSI is never executed.

Chris, 3 things:

1) SSI is executed by the server, not the client. The client (that's us) never
even knows that a given file is an SSI file....

2) My web page uses SSI and it works just fine -- http://web.mit.edu/bzbarsky/www/

3) Could you please include your build id and a URL that demonstrates the
problem so that we can figure out what the real problem is?

Thanks for using mozilla and reporting bugs!
I'm clear on client/server and how SSIs work. I think I need to yank this bug
and rewrite it. The real problem is that, at least on my SSI'd intranet sites,
the page finishes loading but the mozilla icon continues to chug away, as if
there's yet more work to be done. I'll hunt for a dupe and resubmit if
necessary. This was an 0.8 occurrence.

BTW query bugzilla for unresolved pages in bugzilla because you will find yours
almost certainly is already reported. :-)
