Attached image Add A device.PNG
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:8.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/8.0
Build ID: 20111104165243

Steps to reproduce:

I am using Firefox 8.0 on my PC and Android Phone

I am trying to set up the sync feature on Firefox. On my PC: When I use the drop-down Firefox>options and go to the "sync" Tab, the only option is "set up Firefox sync". When I click on "set up Firefox sync" I get a "Firefox Sync setup" popup box. I can click "Create a new account" or "connect". I already have a Firefox sync account so I click "connect". I uploaded a picture of what I get, <Add a device.png>

From there I go to my other device, HTC EVO
From HTC Evo: I Open Firefox and go to Menu>Preferences and under the "Sync" Bar I have "enable sync" checked and a option to "connect" If I click "connect" it opens a "connect to sync" window that prompts me to add a device from my PC. I am unable to upload a picture from my mobile device, but it is the same as my previous picture except the words "other device" would be replace with "computer"

Actual results:

The problem is both settings prompt me to enter a code on the opposite platform, I can not enter a code on either of them, making it impossible to set up. Firefox on both platforms, my computer and my HTC EVO, do not have an option to "add a device", Firefox on both the PC and EVO both state that the other platform will have that option though.

Expected results:

One device needs to prompt you to enter a code on the other platform, the other platform needs to have a clear field to enter a code.
It sounds like neither device is currently connected to a Firefox Sync account, so neither is currently able to give you a code to enter. There are a few solutions available in Firefox 8:

1) If you have a different PC that *is* already connected to a Firefox Sync account, then you can use the "Add a device" option on that PC. It will give you a 12-character code to connect your phone or your other PC to your account.

2) If you have a Firefox Sync account but you don't have a PC that is connected to it, then you can press the "Connect" button on your PC or phone, then click the link that says "I don't have the device with me", and then enter your email address, password, and sync key. (If you don't know your password or sync key, you can follow the instructions in the form to reset them.)

3) Or you can just create a new Firefox Sync account on your PC, and then use the "Add a device" option to connect it to your phone. Then your phone and PC will be synced with each other.

Firefox 10 (currently in pre-release testing on the "Aurora" channel) contains a number of changes to make this process easier and less confusing. For details, see:

I'm marking this bug as a duplicate of bug 624028, which should fix the confusing situation you found here.
