When we inform about czech version of Affiliates website there was one good comment under post about registration. For some users don't make sense to do registration when they just want to promote some ff banner on website. I understand how Affiliates works and what participants can get but I think we should offer banners (with code) even if user isn't registred. If such user doesn't want to register and just add some ff banner on website it is good for me.
I like this idea; we could perhaps offer registration when the user 'saves' a banner; if they register, the banner is saved to their account, otherwise they receive the banner code with an affiliate link not associated to any account (so we could track how many clicks are being generated by non-registered users).

mkelly: I really like the idea of giving them a code not associated with any account. One way we could introduce signup would be to have a message at the bottom of the banner code page if the user isn't signed in that says: "Want to get stats on your banner and track how your banners rank on a global leaderboard? [Sign Up]" (+wordsmithing) Basically, introduce accounts to users along via the benefits they provide, but don't force them on anyone. Power users can get on the leaderboards with no extra hassle, and people who don't care won't be bothered.
+1 to that Don't miss out on the fun. Become a Firefox Affiliate and track your banner's performance on our global leaderboard. You can win great prizes too. [Sign up here]
chelsea: NICE!

Jason: You mentioned some possible wireframes you were going to whip up for helping to simplify Affiliates, was this feature part of those? Chelsea, Chris: Since this is going to take a lot of design and UX work, can we figure out if we have the resources to tackle this and how soon? That way we'll have plenty of time to do the frontend development in the middle of the quarter.
mkelly: Yes, it was the mean feature, as a matter of fact! I've since handed those mocks over to Bram and filled him in on my thoughts so far.
mkelly, Sounds good. I'm still waiting to hear from above about resourcing. I'll let you know as soon as I can.
Bram: Just curious, when do you think you'll have bandwidth to spend some time on Jason's mocks and post them here?
mkelly, I haven’t had a chance to take a look at Jason’s mockup yet, nor do I know when I will be available. Currently, I’m working almost full-time on SUMO, with some hours dedicated to Mozillians, and a tiny bit on very short interaction design projects like the privacy-aware share widget. I imagine that when Mozillians is over, I will be able to work on this. The good news: given what the Affiliates page really needs to do (ie. allow people to select and embed banners as quickly as possible), it won’t be a project that takes a long time. The kinds of interactions that will happen, I imagine, will not be more complex than selecting/customizing banners, and copy-pasting code snippets.
Just noting something mentioned in bug 725640: The redesign should get ride of the large amount of vertical space between the top of the page and where the user wants to go.
Moving to 1.3 (AKA Q2 2012).

Stale bug. The ideas here are really cool and useful, but any attempt at a redesign will happen in a new bug.

Bumping to verified wontfix .. definitely an interesting feature. Please file a new bug against the latest site redesign if you/anyone would like to pursue this idea.
