708310 - Firefox 8 won't reopen last session tabs when closing two separated windows

Steps to reproduce:

I was using Firefox 8 normally, when a pop-up appeared. So I had now 2 windows opened, one with my 79 tabs fully organized into 7 different groups, and the other was a pop-up with just 1 tab. Then, I just clicked to close my Firefox, first the main window, which contained all my tabs, and then closed the pop-up.


Actual results:

Ok, after closing, everything was smooth. When I reopened Firefox, the saved session was the pop-up one, and all my 79 tabs were lost.

Luckly I had XMarks and I restored my tabs, not my groups, but at least I didn't lost everything.


Expected results:

As previous versions of Firefox did, it should re-open my 79 tabs again, as always worked since FF4.

We *should* have restored both windows when your last closed window is a popup window. It may have been the case that the popup wasn't a typical popup & was instead interpreted as a normal window.

But if the popup was restored, not all hope is lost. Your window *should* be listed under history > recently closed windows. (Again, I stressed should, but something might be up).

Shirkit, can you please try to reproduce this on the latest Firefox version with a clean profile or in safe mode?

This issue hasn't been reproduced on the current Firefox versions yet. Please reopen it if you can reproduce it on Firefox 12 or newer versions.

After Fireofx 11, I don't experienced this problem anymore. I don't remember a pop-up bringing me into this problem anymore. I cannot create a step to reproduce this, as this happened to me about 2-3 times only. as Paul said, it should had been restore back there, but for some reason it didn't.

In my opinion, there could be a way to block the tabs to be lost, like locking them to not be grouply closed. I think that is not possible or won't happen, but here goes my opinion. Nowadays, I'm using resources to prevent this damage.
