Actual results: It has been opened in the active tab. Expected results: It should be opened in a new tab like if you middle-click in a link.

Yes, you are true. I have tried disabling some extensions and I found that the problematic extension was Unity Global menubar: https://launchpad.net/globalmenu-extension So, I should report this bug on launchpad?
Yes, that would be best. This is a problem for that specific extension.
