Steps to reproduce:

Using FF 8.0.1 with windows 7. Syncing to same software.  Started using sync feature 3 weeks ago. Fails every day.
Have done all the following tips:
1) Rest sync, 2) Changed sync key, 3) Stopped sync history, preferences & tabs, 4) unlinked device. set-up as new device, Reloaded FF.



Actual results:

Sync encountered and error while syncing: Unknown error. Sync will automatically retry this action. [Retry]
Constant unknown sync errors, retry. Occasional preferences error.  I am syncing only the bookmarks and passwords. (no history). This errors pops up 6 times a day. mostly in the the afternoon (eastern time zone).  Apart from the error, it does appear to work. I mirror the desktop onto laptop by fully replacing files on laptop. (not a true sync). New entries seem to get transferred.  But why the error? Is this process reliable??


Expected results:

No errors. Reliable operation is needed.
Heck it has failed twice since I started to type this bug entry.

Most likely you're seeing Bug 690170. Could you try Firefox Aurora, or Beta in a couple of days, and let me know if this is fixed?

Updated both machines to Beta version last night.   
Still having errors today as before  (Unknown) [SYNC]
I did get asked to check preferences. I did made no changes, but re-saved

Beta hasn't reached Firefox 10 yet. Could you try with Aurora?

Running Aurora 11.0a2 (2011-12-25). The error no longer happens. I am only testing One way sync (desktop to laptop) of passwords and bookmarks - no other data and not a full two-way sync. 
FYI to others: Some of plug-ins (like: FVD Suite, Adobe Contribute, YouTube Fastloader) won't work in this version yet, but for "typical" usage it runs stable and SYNC does work!

Great to hear. Resolving this as FIXED with the solution being bug 690170.

FYI Sync has no "one-way sync". It's always two-way sync. The option you can choose during setup or Reset Sync just affects the very first sync. After that data always goes both ways.
