The current editor's draft of the spec seems to have updated the 2d transform to match the background-position property but left the 3d transform unchanged. This causes ambiguity as already described in

and a bug has been filed with the w3 working group

This issue was first brought up in the comments for bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=522607 

where a solution was proposed to match webkit implementation.

It looks like this bug is WONTFIX due to change in spec: https://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=15432#c12 and https://dvcs.w3.org/hg/csswg/rev/16db95fda02f

Can somebody check that, please? I'm not sure if my assessment is correct.
