User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.7; rv:12.0a1) Gecko/20111228 Firefox/12.0a1 Build ID: 20111228031049 Steps to reproduce: Proposal: Treating pinned tabs as "native apps", adding each of them to the cmd+tab application switcher list (alt+tab on Windows and Linux). NB: this is not about replacing the current ctrl+tab tab switching behavior, but exposing pinned tabs as "applications" to the OS. Actual results: Currently, pinned tabs can be accessed by going through tabs using the ctrl+tab keyboard shortcut (and directly, using the ctrl+1/2/3... shortcut). Pinned tabs are treated as "normal" tabs, they live inside Firefox. Expected results: I feel like pinned tabs deserve to be treated as "separate apps", and thus be listed in the OS app switcher alongside with Firefox. Simple example (Mac): - I have two apps running: Firefox and Thunderbird. I press Cmd+tab, and see the Firefox and Thunderbird's icons in the application switching view. - I now go back to Firefox, and pin my Twitter tab in Firefox ("Pin as App Tab"), press Cmd+tab again, and I now see: Firefox, Twitter and Thunderbird in the application switching view. - Selecting Twitter in the application switching view focuses my Twitter pinned tab in Firefox.
This sounds like something I would expect true "web apps" to do. I'm not so sure I'd expect it from "pinned tabs", which are not really true apps. I don't know if there's proper convergence planned between the two things. If so, this would definitely make sense in that converged future.
OS: Mac OS X → All
Hardware: x86 → All
I can't count the times I tried to get to my pinned tabs with Cmd+tab instead of Ctrl+tab/tab/tab/tab, because for some reason, I mentally associate them with "apps" - it's called an "App tab" after all. But maybe it's just me... Too bad if this won't happen.
Component: General → Shell Integration
Sounds like a partial dupe of bug 704661
Severity: normal → S3

Reporter,
Does this still reproduce for you when using a current version?
