+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #714040 +++

Current documentation:

Keyboard Shortcuts list (1) currently has this:

|Stop||{button Esc}
|-

Which translates to:

_Message functions_
Stop: Esc

Stop what!? Clearly, this is insufficiently documented.
I don't have time for the details, but we need to figure out relevant behaviour and then, discuss more appropriate documentation.

Expected documentation (draft):

I suspect we might need at least two or three entries:
1) one for stopping message download (does that still work at all?)
2) one for removing quick filter content/bar
3) perhaps one for cancelling other operations/dialogues etc.

No. ESC no longer stops server connections. VK_ESCAPE was hijacked by Quick Filter bar in a western style operation, to serve the common good better. Well, at least cmd_stop was later returned, after some negotiations in bug 579576, to do what it says, and is still available via the Stop button (which however doesn't always stop things as expected...).

So I'm about to remove this outdated info from main keyboard shortcuts documentation (1):

Stop: [ESC]

Another rumor eradicated.

> 2) one for removing quick filter content/bar

I'll add that, too.

Or perhaps not.

Depends on: 579576
I fixed this in major revision 5658 (1), as documented in bug 721666.

(per bug 579576)
- removed "Stop: [ESC]"
- added:

|-
|Clear current Quick Filter; hide Quick Filter Bar||{key Esc} (as often as needed)
|-
