Steps to reproduce:

I opened journal. Then I selected a lot of visisted sites/pages. Thed I pressed button "Del". Then Firefox became unresponsible.
In task manager Firefox looked like doing something and using whole CPU.
Only way to 
stop was to end the firefox process

It can be very slow, especially if you select hundreds of pages, but it will complete eventually. You just need to wait.

It works a lot faster in Firefox 9, in my experience.
