Details
After a period of usage, Firefox no longer responds to attempts to open links from other applications (such as links in Mail messages), or URL files in the Finder. Clicking (or double-clicking, respectively) in each case results in no action. User must then manually copy and paste links into URL bar, or drag URL files onto Firefox window, which both function as expected. Quitting, and relaunching Firefox restores full functionality, which then fails again after an as yet undetermined period of use. Launch Services has been reset and rebuilt twice to eliminate the possibility of a corrupted database, but the issue remains. No other configuration changes have been made to this 10.6.8 setup. I wish I could narrow down the range of time when this first occurred, but a rough estimate would place it during the later builds of Aurora 10.0a, and it has continued with 11.0a. Previous versions have not exhibited this behavior.

Does the issue still occur if you start Firefox in Safe Mode? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode How about with a new, empty profile? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic%20Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile

Sorry for the tardy response. I finally found some time to rebuilt my testing machine, and further usage seems to indicate that a fresh profile has resolved the issue.
