The input areas(text, select, textarea etc.) in the bug view pane are too pronounced to quickly digest the general bug information. People usually do not touch these areas after creating a bug so these areas should be dimmed for those who do not intend to do any editing. Also the labels' alignment to the left makes it even harder to read and understand the information. Thus, I am proposing the following changes: https://gist.github.com/9e48d8a2558465a24cd3
Please also note that the "text-align: right" change in global.css introduces a minor visual glitch with tags which should be addressed.
I'm not sure this does not really belong under the Bugzilla product. You have entered this under the specific Mozilla implementation of Bugzilla, but if this is really a good idea it should more properly just be in the released version of Bugzilla so that it is in everyone's implementation.
I am told that the align change was BMO specific and also filing the bug under this product would make sense though feel free to change it if you think it is not proper.
Well it the align change is BMO specific then that should be a BMO bug. The other issue does not seem to be and this is an example of why there should be one issue per bug.
Removed text-align related change from the gist, moving to Bugzilla product.

This is not yet another "make Bugzilla prettier" bug and not meant for the next version, thus not a duplicate of bug 662605.

Oh, you shouldn't expect any change for the current version. It's too late.
We could definitely work it in as a BMO custom skin enhancement and then work it upstream for the next release (probably 5.0). Lots of installations do this and is not a bad thing as it gives a chance for a larger audience to give feedback and testing.

i'm not a fan of this change; i find it defocuses the data on the page, making it much harder to scan for the information -- ie. for me achieves the opposite effect to what it's trying to fix.

i agree that show_bug is very cluttered, however we may be able to fix it by de-focusing the field labels. i've raised bmo customisation bug 716460.

What about increasing the contrast between the background and the text while keeping the background subtle. Also may be adding some bottom borders might help.

Also please consider this change with the "text-align: right" on field labels.

If you defocus field labels, wouldn't it be harder to extract key information?

Target Milestone: --- → Bugzilla 4.2
We won't take it for 4.2.
Severity: normal → minor
Target Milestone: Bugzilla 4.2 → Bugzilla 4.4
Depends on: bz-pretty
We are going to branch for Bugzilla 4.4 next week and this bug is too invasive or too risky to be accepted for 4.4 at this point. The target milestone is set to 5.0 which is our next major release.

I ask the assignee to reassign the bug to the default assignee if you don't plan to work on this bug in the near future, to make it clearer which bugs should be fixed by someone else on time for 5.0.
Target Milestone: Bugzilla 4.4 → Bugzilla 5.0
Target Milestone: Bugzilla 5.0 → ---

Bugzilla 6.0 will ship with the new modal UI created for BMO, so this is no longer the case.
