Details

I tried installing Mass Password Reset in Nightly for an upcoming LDAP password expiration, but the installation failed, saying it wasn't compatible with Firefox 12.

I've had it installed in the past in the post-Firefox4 period, so it confused me that it wasn't installing, since I thought the new "default to compatible" thing was based on having at least support for Firefox 4 or newer.

Looking at the version compatibility information on AMO says that it was compatible from 3.0 up to 11.0a1 (though Gavin just bumped that to 12.0a1 earlier today).

Looking at the extension's install.rdf, though, showed compatibility only from 3.0 up to 3.6a1pre.

If I go into about:config and change extensions.minCompatibleAppVersion to 3.5 and extensions.minCompatiblePlatformVersion to 1.9.1, I can then install the extension without any problem.

So I guess the "compatible by default" feature only looks at install.rdf, and doesn't (or can't?) take AMO's updated compatibility information into account.

(To test this now that Gavin bumped compatibility, try it with version 1.04, which has an AMO-set maxVersion of 10.0a1: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/mass-password-reset/versions/?page=1#version-1.04 )
