User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0.1
Build ID: 20111220165912
Steps to reproduce:
dragging news (folders and news items) to trash results in trash with folders that won't go away
this results in a trashbin within a trashbin that has a folder which has a feed.
the feed won't go away until you delete it specifically.
additionally, I have "Local Folders" trashcan in my trash with a trash folder in it...
nothing in that trash will go away.
I usually drag items to the trashbin. but lately since 9.x this does not work anymore.
I don't know how to fix it, and this should never have happened in the first place!
I can no longer right click on the main trash bin and pick Empty Trash. the menu item is not there.
when I try to select the messages in trash that autogrow, it hangs.
unable to delete news folders. unable to move news/rss feeds from 1 news folders to another.
Actual results:
see above
Expected results:
there should be 1 trash bin, and when I right click on it and pick empty trash it should empty the trash (and the menu item should be there instead of treating the main trashbin like a folder). I don't mind if there are folders in there which I have deleted, they should go away when I empty trash.
I should be able to select a range of messages in the trash to delete without it hanging tb.
I should be able to drag/delete news folders and move things out of those foldders and into other folders that have news feeds in them into the trash bin or other which have been converted from older versions of tb.

Could you attach a screenshot of such a bad Trash folder with all folders in it expanded?

not only is there a problem with the trash folder, there is a folder named mailbox and then a hexadecimal number, that when you hover the mouse over it, shows a bug icon. apparently it is receiving mail, but won't stop. maybe it is the feeds? I don't know. it is one of the folders.

shows the bug icon folder which never stops processing, and the messed up trashcan. trashcan looks much better than it did, I had to push it hard to make it clean up. I don't know how trash folders work.
See what you have set in View->Folders . Do you have Unified there? Try to set it to All.

you mean a folder named "Unified"? I don't know what you are talking about.
by the way, those folders with GUIDs are ones I created to split the inbox into pieces. it's a technique to prevent/solve the 2GiB inbox limit problem.

yes, it is. and it has a bug icon. what do you mean by "set to all"? no such menu item exists. here's a screenshot of context menu.

tb treats the trash as if it is a regular folder. so you get that kind of context menu.

iirc, dragging of newsgroup folders was fixed (prevented) a year or two ago.
I can't reproduce. If you still see a problem please reopen the bug.
But note - there are indeed weirdness when dragging news articles, like bug 1060227
