Ty Flannigan suggested Extensis Portfolio Manager, Enterprise edition. The Professional edition has a 30 day trial available on their website, but there isn't one shown for the Enterprise edition. I contacted Extensis sales and got an automated reply with a login to their site, but that still doesn't make the Enterprise trial downloadable. Stay tuned....
Summary: Air Mozilla Archive needs a Digital Asset Manager → Digital Asset Manager Selection Process

We have three open source DAMs that we're evaluating as well: resourcespace1.vm1.labs.sjc1.mozilla.com razuna1.vm1.labs.sjc1.mozilla.com notredam1.vm1.labs.sjc1.mozilla.com

Talked with Kari Friedewald of Extensis. The Enterprise edition of Portfolio Manager can be activated from a Professional edition install with an activation key. She recommended we install Pro and do a preliminary evaluation because applying the activation key will extend the trial period by 30 days. LDAP integration in Enterprise is better, but we can do all of the preliminary content load tests and evaluation of the web interfaces in the Pro Edition. We need to stand up a vm where we can install this.

Is there an installed version of the Extensis Portfolio Server we can test yet? Also, what do I need to do to connect to the Open Source DAMs indicated in Comment 2?

The server is installed on portfolio.corp.mtv1.mozilla.com The web client should be working at http://portfolio.corp.mtv1.mozilla.com:8090/ However I have not been able to successfully log-in using the web client. I haven't yet tried the desktop client. But the system does appear to successfully talk to the LDAP server when adding users from the local admin interface. There are currently two catalogs on the system; Air Mozilla and Engagement. I've set up tflanagan as a catalog administrator for the Engagement Catalog.

I have downloaded the desktop client, but need an IP address to connect to the server.

I've been unsuccessful in logging in with LDAP credentials. I have a support request open with our tech rep.

Extensis support indicates that there are known problems with LDAP integration that may account for our problems: Escalation 1131 - OD users with multiple short names are unable to connect to Portfolio server Synced OD users that have multiple short names are unable to connect to Portfolio Server. Authentication Failed. Issue Details: In the mappings we show the 1st short name, however the account name we assign is the 2nd short name. Neither log in works. Workaround: Remove extra short names in OD delete the user mapping in Portfolio re-add the mapping Mozilla IT is examining the problem.

Hi Richard, Has IT managed to look into the workaround yet?

No work-around yet. I've opened bug #723352 focused on the Portfolio Server Pro LDAP problem.

There's a php gallery thing called GNU MediaGoblin which does video. Works well with firefox, and has the advantage of being open source. However, I think it would need a plugin to support proprietary devices like the iphone. considering it's a GNU project. http://mediagoblin.org/

There is an instance of Resource Space available for evaluation at: https://resourcespace1.vm1.labs.sjc1.mozilla.com/index.php Please post comments on that DAM in bug #730162

Sorry, mediagoblin is python, not php.

Looks like mediagoblin doesn't support ldap. One of the contributors apparently works for SUMO, perhaps he can follow up in more detail.

(In reply to Richard A Milewski[:richard] from comment #16) > Ralph, > > Does Mediagoblin have an LDAP authentication capability? Hi! I work on SUMO at Mozilla and work on MediaGoblin in my spare time. MediaGoblin doesn't currently support LDAP. However, several groups have asked for this and we've been mulling it over. We were thinking that we'd add support for other authentication systems through plugins, but the plugin infrastructure hasn't been written, yet. I was thinking of sprinting on a plugin system while at PyCon (March 8th-ish). Chris says that the video support is currently ogv, but it's possible to write a media processor plugin that adds support for other media formats. What's the timeline for selecting a DAM look like? Is this something that needs to get done asap or something that needs to get done in the next 6 months?

We're looking to stand up something rather quickly. WebDev is working on a new Air Mozilla site. The original goal was to have the first version up by the end of Q1. It looks like that my be slipping a bit, but I hope that it won't slip by more than 30 days. We need to support multiple video formats, and have solid support for graphics formats as well. Sadly, because our streaming CDN's have limited live-stream format support, we're going to need to continue to support Flash video for a while yet.

I don't think we'll be able to implement all the things needed by the end of Q1, so I think that nixes MediaGoblin for now.
