Is even reproducible in Firefox 10 beta on Linux. The add-ons checker runs forever. User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:10.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/10.0 Firefox/10.0
Just found reproducible in 9.0.1 Mozilla/5.0 (Ubuntu; X11; Linux i686; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0.1 Firefox/9.0.1
Please enable extensions.logging.enabled in the profile your using and after cancelling the compatibility UI look in the error console to see if there are any errors or warnings displayed.
This looks like your build is having problems writing to your profile folder, it claims the extensions database is read only.
