Steps: Install the browser without java plugin Visit a page with java applet on it (java.sun.com) Click the puzzle icon to get the plugin and go thru the installation Now, in the same browser session, hit RELOAD to see the applet. Observe that the applet appears. Now, do Tasks|Tools|Java Console (observe the menu item is grayed out)
well..restatning the browser works..and the menu item appears enabled.
Yes, a restart is required. The java plugin should put up a dialog, but currently it doesn't. This is bug 42314.

for me it is grayed out even after restart
ups sorry it was my fault java was disabled in the preferences but java applets where loaded anyway, but this is another bug after enabling java the java console works
