David created this : http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla-antarctica
We would love to link it with a newly created community-antarctica@lists.mozilla.org
Thanks!

Fairly sure it doesn't work like that... The correct name for the Google Group will be something like http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.community.antarctica or similar. David should not have created one by himself.
See the existing ones under http://groups.google.com/groups/dir?sel=usenet%3Dmozilla.community

I think it is the same.
Look at the address of Mozilla Hispano:
http://groups.google.com/group/comunidad-mozilla
In the end, we will have to move the mailing list to Mozilla.
So, why don't we create a mailing list in our servers right now?
Mrz would be more than grateful to help us.

I totally agree :) It is just the David simply did it. No way to merge those?
If not David should delete it i guess :)

Apologies if I did it wrong -- I had looked at how other local community sites were set up and it seemed like there wasn't a regular policy to follow here.
Anyway, this has already been announced and there are already people signed up and discussions starting. Is there any way to link this existing group with a new list instead of deleting it and starting over?

It would be indeed awesome if we can just link them :) Would not be that hard right?

I believe the answer to that is no - at least, it has been in the past :-| In order for the group to be set up like all the other community groups, it has to be set up in the standard way.
Over to server-ops for advice.

(The second paragraph at the top of https://www.mozilla.org/about/forums/ is relevant to this discussion. I'm not sure how much more clear I can make it :-| )

Yes, it is pretty clear :)
Apologies -- I was going quickly and skipped some steps.

Since mozilla-antarctica is still a fairly new newsgroup, making a 'migration' with a quick announcement post sent to mozilla-antarctica shouldn't be too difficult to move the community over.
Should I go ahead and create the mozilla.community.antartica discussion forum with that in mind, or are we happy with the existing Google Group?

I'm fine with the migration suggestion if that's the recommendation.

mburns: you appear to have created a group called
mozilla.community.antartica
However, the correct spelling is
mozilla.community.antarctica
Please can you delete the bogus group, create the new group, and let us know so we can arrange to get people to move?
Thanks :-)

Gerv, the new list and newsgroup has been created and could take new subscriptions.
https://mail.mozilla.org/listinfo/community-antarctica
This may still block on Google Groups which isn't picking up Mozilla's newsgroups data in general including this new newsgroup.

I've sent Yet Another email to the Google Groups admin, since they seem to be responding to support requests.
Gerv, we should arrange the announcement/migration to ease the transition to m.c.antarctica.

I don't see community-antarctica listed at https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo. I expected to at least see it there. Has the list been created on our end?
