The only way I found to show the "Add to Home Screen" functionality is to long-tap on a awesomebar list item. I'm not sure this is very discoverable. Moreover, with the main screen being about:home, I initially thought this would add to the site to about:home, which would actually have been nice feature.
cc'ing madhava, ibarlow. Is there anything we might be able to do here?

We can consider this for 12+ but not for Fx11 at this point.

Looks like it's still tracking fx11, so I'm setting it back to "?"

I think we are looking for any additional UX improvement to "Add to Home Screen". The text itself is the same as Stock and Chrome use, but maybe there are other ways to expose this feature.

In a round-about way, "Add to Home Screen" might be thought of as a "Save for Later" type of feature. If we expose some "Save for Later" features in a different way, we might want to add "Add to Home Screen" to that list.
Wes and I were talking about throwing up a dialog when you tap "bookmark", that asks if you want to start putting stuff on your home screen.

It might not be for everyone, but could be a nice one-time way to make the feature a little more visible.

Perhaps this bug can be mentored

Maybe wesj wants to mentor it?

I would hang this off of adding a basic bookmark management addon-api if we did it. Then I would recommend we write this as an addon to see how it feels. Bug 894628 is where I'd start if someone wanted to look at a bookmarks api.

We are in the midst of adding a submenu to the bookmarks button, which may help with discoverability here. See bug 965453

I think we first need some UX help to figure out what we actually want to do here.

It looks like we backed out the submenu that ibarlow mentioned in comment 9, and we replaces it with a supertoast that offers an options dialog with "Add to Home Screen" as an option.

So I don't think there's actually anything left to do here.

antlam, what do you think? Should we just close this out?

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. It doesn't seem like we need to over emphasize this much more. Let's close this bug.
