As discussed, sm-purify01 isn't in use yet, and it will be easiest to just re-create this machine when it's ready to get rolled out in scl3. In preparation, please have a look at it to be sure there's nothing important on there (e.g., the license), then halt it and re-assign to me.

While I have you, just to verify in writing:
 qm-purify
 sm-purify
are both unnecessary, correct?

> qm-purify

You mean the physical machine qm-purify01 right? It was created in bug 382328 for use by the engineering team. Damon should make the final call there. Nicholas Nethercote did say he wasn't using it any more.

> sm-purify

You mean the virtual machine? Then yes.

As for the Windows license and the Purify license on sm-purify01, if they can be reused by QA or Engineering we should try to do so.
Thanks, yes - I meant qm-purify01, and the VM which is actually gone already. Thanks!
Blocks: scl3-move
Damon - can I get a call on qm-purify01 from you as suggested by :bc in comment 1?

johnath may be interested.
Hmm - I appreciate the cc, but I don't know the context. Judging from the machine name, this was a box that was going to be doing automated purify testing? That sounds neat, but it sounds like it's delayed on some internal-to-IT migrations?

I trust you guys to make smart trade offs, but given the value that automated analysis can add for security and quality, I'm adding Lucas and Bob to weigh in on each, respectively.
Well, if there's even a project here, it's delayed on developer time. We can start or resume the project at some point that there are developer resources available - but that's orthogonal to this bug.

For the moment the physical machine, qm-purify01 needs to move, so I need to know if it's in use, and if so, by whom, so I can talk to them about the move logistics (and document it). If it's not in use, we'll put it into the spare pool.
Right, okay. Well I don't know of any active work happening there, but Bob and Lucas would be more likely to have people in this area.
I don't know who's using this machine. Please expand your query about its use to include: JP Rosevear, JST, Bob Moss (he's cc'd), and then probably should ask Todd's group. Also, I would think teams like Rob Strong's and Tara's team might use this machine.

Who has been historically using it based on logins?
From an A-Team perspective we are fine with recovering the license and decommissioning the box. We may want to use the license again but have no immediate plans. We find valgrind on linux to be more usable in test automation.

It's a windows system, so I can't tell.

:bmoss, note that the license was on sm-purify01, and has already been recovered (AFAIK).

:bc, I've copied the folks Damon mentioned above. Can you chase down answers if you don't hear back here?

The time constraints are that the last day to move the host is May 15th, and we'll need to schedule that move with the contractors by May 4.
No one from the Platform Integration team knows about these systems.
sm-purify01 was mine. The other machine, qm-purify01 was an engineering machine.

Dustin, has the license been recovered from qm-purify01? qm-purify01 was Rob Sayre's machine. It has been used by Igor and njn but iirc neither Igor nor njn use or care about this machine.
To the best of my knowledge the purify/quantify license on qm-purify expired *years* ago. I haven't used it for years myself, but when I did (and I did use it fairly heavily in ca 2008) I had to set the clock back a few years to get it running. At the time I asked around about this but was told we have an up to date license but nobody seemed to know where that was or who had it etc.

Given that, I'm inclined to say we retire qm-purify and start over with a real license if we truly have one. I personally have not heard/seen anyone use this computer in several years.
:bc, nope, I don't have a login, and have no idea where it would be. Per comment 0, you were going to do that (on sm-purify01). Let me know when you're done (including halting the systems), and I'll mark it spare and wrap this up.

I'll halt qm-purify01 now.
Thanks for the cc. I'm not familiar with this and don't think it impacts my team.
10.2.76.173 sm-purify01

You can rdp to it. Hit me up on irc for the password. I don't know anything about how to deactivate the purify license, but I think Phong has done that in the past. Phong, can you deactivate the license if it is still valid and shut down the machine?
This was discussed with ctalbert and we decided that no one has used this. I didn't renew the license so there is nothing to save here.
OK, hardware's spare, thanks folks!
