Hi Creative -

We'd like to enlist Rhonda's services updating the Firefox for Android Reviewers Guide. We'll need this ready by next week, in preparation for MWC. We plan to send materials to Rhonda early next week.

Just hoping you have time next week to help us with this.
Hey All--
Happy to help.

One note--it seems like things have come quite a ways since the last design of the FF and Mobile Reviewer's Guides in terms of style.

If Lee Tom or Sean Martell would like to chime in on style elements they would like to see (backgrounds, logos, fonts, illstrations, etc) that I might not be aware of, please let me know where I can find said elements (besides the brand element page links of course)

Any screen shots of mobile UI will be needed in high resolution (folks have done a great job in the past providing these--just a reminder)

Also--in the recent past we have not been printing these offset, but have been generating online PDF's, so it would be great to know if we are still planning on doing only online documents.

Thanks!
--rhonda
Thanks Rhonda! I'll let the creative team respond on the design- I'm pretty happy w/where it is for now, but I'm no expert ;)

These would be an online PDF and I'd like to print some but know it will extend the timing.

Erica, Mark, could you please attach a reference of the old reviewer's guide? and possibly the source file? I don't remember what it looked like in detail, aside from the fact that it was not aligned with our new look and feel. So, this isn't a simple quick update but a little more of a re-design. So, lets see where it is now, and figure out what needs to be done to update it for MWC. I'd avoid using the soft textured blue background and the illustrations, for example.
Also, if there are other reviewer's guides, or similar assets being handed out at MWC, please do make a list of those and let us know asap so we can ensure a consistent look and feel across all of them vs. standalone designs as they come. Just helps to see the big picture of what's coming given the fast paced nature of everything around MWC right now.
Whiteboard: MWC
Thanks Tara. We won't be handing out the reviewer's guide at MWC - they're being sent to reporters at approx the same time as MWC, but not actually going to the conference.
Sorry - sent too early...

What that means it that we're fine if the rev guide doesn't match the new look and feel
Could someone post a visual of the reviewer's guide for reference? It's hard for me to have an opinion on whether we need to update or not without seeing how outdated it is now.

Thanks-
Of course: static.mozilla.com/moco/en-US/pdf/FF_5_mobile_guide_US.pdf
Thanks Mark. This is similar enough that it should be fine to use as the basis for this go-round.

Let's give it a more thorough refresh next time we need an update, though.
Sounds good, John. Thanks for taking a look.
great. Please be sure to update that logo and wordmark lockup :)

Rhonda, can you please help knock this out for us? please let us know.
Mark, is it worth filing a new bug here to start fresh? up to you :)

Yep! No problem.

Thanks! We're fine using this bug.
Rhonda, we're meeting on the Rev Guide today and will have more info for you later today.

Hi Rhonda, a few more details:
- We will use the same template as last time but much of the content will need to be updated. It will be roughly the same size doc (maybe one page more). Same format, design template.
- We expect to finalize that content today and send asap so you can start working on it
- Our turnaround time is super quick (ASAP). Is an EOD Tuesday deadline possible?

Thanks!
Hi Mark--
I won't be able to start on this until Wedesday--and judging from prior years it will most likely take a couple of rounds of changes before it is approved. I can get you the first round on Wednesday EOD though and we can go from there--that's the best I can do timing wise!
Rhonda
Thanks Rhonda, that should work
Hi Mark--
I was going to start on this tomorrow morning early so I can meet the deadline but I dont see any content or copy (unless I'm looking on the wrong bug?). I wont be able to turn this around by EOD Wednesday unless I can start on this first thing Wednesday am, so is the content and copy available now?
Thanks!
--rhonda
Thanks Rhonda. We are finalizing now and share the content with you this evening
Rhonda, here the link to the G-doc with our content: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1r-ZqW6uovLFtJeucfxY6dNo25Sb1C1BnaZlGHuxZ8co/edit. I shared access with you email, but let me know if you prefer to get it via Gmail.

You'll notice the format is the same as last time, but the heads and content have been updated. We also included a number of screenshots and comments in the doc. Feel free to call me on my cell if you have any questions: 706.836.2313

Thanks!
Hi Mark--
I tried to log in this morning at 6:30 to start on this but I dont have access to the shared Google document. I just called and left a message, so if you can grant me access right away I will be able to have this for you at the end of the day today.
Thanks!
--rhonda
Hi Mark--
On another note, the cover and back cover of the Guide is the light blue with the lines in it, which is still valid for the interior pages of the site (look and feel wise), but the home page of Firefox is now the orange. Since this bug was opened and John OK'd the same look before the new design happened, I just wanted to check and make sure that we did want to keep it the same blue with the lines look and feel that it is currently and not change it to the orange?
--rhonda
Sorry Mark!
Google defaulted to the wrong email address--you were on it. Sorry for any confusion. Im starting the doc now.
:)
--rhonda
Hey Mark--
Can someone send me or provide me a link to the screenshots used in the Google doc so I can place them in the design doc? I cant extract them from the Google doc so that they will format properly in the design doc so I'll need them sent to me in some way.
Looks like the resolution that you have in the Google doc should be fine since it won't be printed and will be for online viewing.
:)
Thanks!
--rhonda
No problem. Jaclyn, can you help here? Thanks!

Jaclyn, do we need to include the infographic that Ty is working on here? If so, let's get that wrapped up and over to Rhonda asap.
yup that needs to be in here as well
Hi guys--
Just so you can get a jump on taking a look at formatting and any copy edits, I have posted the rough first draft here:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/36432639/FF_14_mobile_guide_US.pdf

This draft includes the up to date copy and FPO placements for the screen shots (I'll put the good ones in next round).

I still need to replace the old Info graphic chart with the new one, so just look at what is there for position at this point.

Also--I will insert real links into the final approved PDF, but for now they are just blue and not linked. The blue will signify an active link in the finished PDF.

NOTE: I did replace the personal info with an email address I made up in the pairing device screen, but I will change it to the address that Jaclyn specified on the next round.

QUESTION: Do I need to replace the small phone icon on the upper left corner of each page with another model, and if so, can you point me to the one you would like to use instead?

I used the current phone/tablet image for the cover but let me know if that should be different also.

I am out today until 4:00 and then will return to the office.

Thanks!
--rhonda
Hi Rhonda,

Thanks. Initial feedback:

Cover: Can we use something that does not have the tablet in the setup? What about this graphic? https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=632748&action=edit

slide 2: What about making the list of websites in a smaller font? This page looks overwhelming

And yes, we'll need a different small phone icon in the upper left corner. There's one at the bottom of this mockup https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=632748&action=edit
Yes, I'll get a better "phone with logo on it" graphic from Lee that you can use both on the cover and in the upper left corner.

Also, the performance graphic should be finished soon.

Thanks!
A couple of other notes:

- Lee sent Rhonda the phone graphic via email
- it would also be nice to add a bit of Mozilla branding by including Tabzilla in the upper right corner like we do on our sites. Rhonda, here's a high res PSD for that:
http://cl.ly/250c1I070i1P38343w3K

Thanks-
Rhonda, I added a comment into the doc to add text where we had a placeholder under GET STARTED

Do you think you'll be able to send another draft tonight or first thing tomorrow? We'd like to get this off to the printers tomorrow midday.

Thanks
Hey guys--
Here is the second proof for the Reviewer's guide. I think I have every change and new item of content now except for the Performance Chart.
Take a look and let me know if we need to make any additional changes.
:)

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/36432639/FF_14_mobile_guide_US.pdf
Thanks Rhonda. The main thing from me is that the way the type treatment for "Firefox for Android" is done (Firefox in Georgia, for Android in Meta) places more emphasis on "for Android". I'm not sure if it's as simple as reversing that mix, but we should make sure that Firefox stands out.

(Side note: we're actually using Open Sans on our websites now, so that might be something to play around with here as well - http://www.mozilla.org/b/en-US/sandstone/#typefaces)

Also, what about extending the Mozilla tab across all pages?

Thanks!
Also, if you want an advance look at what the performance graphs will look like, they're almost finished over in bug 763099 (scroll down to the last couple of comments for the latest revs). Once those are approved we'll post the high res files here, but I thought you might like to see 'em a little early.
Thanks Rhonda. A couple quick notes:
- on the GET STARTED page: Please remove the list of websites for other countries. We just need US websites listed in bullet form. We can remove "US" too
- On the same page, remove the quotation mark at the end of the last paragraph [entered the market"]
Hey guys--
here are the copy changes from Mark as well as some design tweaks for John.
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/36432639/FF_14_mobile_guide_US.pdf

Take a look and let me know what you think.
--rhonda
Hi Rhonda - small copy change. We need to take out "Contacts API" and "ResourceLock" from the Under the hood > Web APIs section

Thanks
And on slide 6, there's a break in the first paragraph between "directly to your Android" and "phone from the" that shouldn't be there I think

For the privacy settings screenshot, we need to change the logo from Beta to GA (Rhonda the link to this logo was in the gdoc)

Thanks!
hey guys--
once I make the changes suggested, am I still waiting on the final performance chart or is the one I have ready to go?
--rhonda
Looks like the new graphics are ready in bug 763099 (the last two comments).
Here is the latest. Take a look and let me know if we need to make any additional changes, or if I can prep for printing.
:)
--rhonda

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/36432639/FF_14_mobile_guide_US.pdf
Thanks Rhonda - we just heard from our printer that this doc needs to be formatted in even increments of 4 pages. This doc is 14 pages, so we will need to format 2 blank pages into the layout. One idea is to have the inside front & back covers be branded, but with no copy. Is that doable?

We're also doing a final proof of the copy and will let you know if there are any last edits.
That should be ok.
:)
--rhonda
Thanks Rhonda, just called you to talk through some formatting edits throughout. For now, on the "Google Play Store"phrase on page 3 and 4, can you hyperlink with this: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/mobile/android-download.html?WT.mc_id=fxa_rgus&WT.mc_ev=click

Can you call my cell when you're available to talk through edits - think it'll be quicker than listing them in the bug.
Thanks for talking through edits, Rhonda. A few more:
- On Mobile Browsing Upgrade Page, under Tabbed Browsing heading, last two sentences should be removed and replaced with: "Open a new tab by tapping the "+" sign in the upper right hand corner of the browser. When you have multiple tabs open, the "+" sign changes to indicate the number of tabs open. Note that your open tabs are always updated as real-time thumbnails. Tap on the "X" to close a tab."
- The rank order for sections on the Under the Hood Page are:
1. Web APIs
2. JagerMonkey JavaScript Engine
3. Location-Aware
4. Stylin' Page with CSS3
5. Offline Storage
6. GPU Accelerated Graphics
7. SVG
8. Web Workers
9. <canvas>
10. Native JSON
11. SMIL
- Update the copy on the Thank you page to read: "Thank you for reviewing Firefox for Android. The Mozilla community works hard to deliver the best Firefox ever. We hope you enjoy browsing with Firefox for Android. If you have any questions or issues while testing Firefox for Android, Please do not hesitate..."
Jaclyn, can you also help with a screenshot of the add-ons page for "Customize On the Go"? We have some space on that page and it'd be great to fill it with an image.

Rhonda, one more addition:
- On "Get Up and Go" page, for captions. The top screenshot with the heading "Connect to Sync" should have a caption that reads "Firefox Sync set up on your Android device"
- The other two screenshots should read: "Firefox Sync set up on your desktop"
Hello--
Here is the new draft with the changes so far...

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/36432639/FF_14_mobile_guide_US.pdf

--rhonda
Hey guys--
unfortunately I have to leave the office for the night but I'll be back tomorrow to make final edits if needed.
:)
--rhonda
Hey Rhonda, thanks for the updated version. We only have one last edit - can you pls remove the Move at the Speed of the Web page (page 4) and the title from the Table of Contents. We'll also have to update the page numbers and add a blank page at the end to keep the page count at 16.

Thanks in advance for making the change. If you could make the update as early as possible tomorrow morning, we'll send to Bob ASAP so he can start printing.
Rhonda, sorry for the change. please hold on removing that page for now. WE will talk more in the morning. Thanks
Hi Mark--
So here are a couple of things to consider for completion today:
I am out of the office today at 1:00. In order for this to go to press (I didnt think this was scheduled to be a printed version but luckily it is set up with high resolution images), this has to be prepped for print. I dont know if Bob needs it paginated but if so, that takes a little more time. I will give him a call this morning to find out what he needs.

Again, Im out of the office today at 1:00, which is a hard stop for me with my schedule.

I will do what I can to get it to the printers by that time, but with additional changes at this point it may carry over until monday.

Thanks--
rhonda
Attached image add ons manager
Mark - is this the screenshot you're looking for?
Rhonda, thanks for the update on your schedule. The update is that we will need to wait until Tuesday to send this to print. There will be a change to the performance benchmark's graph that needs to be updated before we can move forward with printing. We hope to have that on Tuesday for you to drop in the doc (it will replace the graphs we had on "Move at the Speed of the Web".

Jaclyn, that's the screenshot, thanks. Rhonda, can you add that to the "Customize" page?
OK, thanks for letting me know.
:)
Have a nice weekend everyone.

Hi Mark--
Here is a link to the editable InDesign print file, PDF proof, and the linked editable Photoshop and Illustrator images:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/36432639/FF_14_Mobile_guide_EU%20Folder.zip

:)
--rhonda
Thanks Rhonda - but the link doesn't work for me. Dropbox tells me there's an error
hey mark--try it once more--it may not have finished copying when you tried it but it shows that it is up there now. let me know if that doesnt do the trick.
:)
--rhonda
good to go! thanks rhonda. enjoy the wknd
Rhonda, can we get a version of this Rev Guide (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/36432639/FF_14_mobile_guide_US.pdf) without a graph on page 4 (Move at the Speed of the Web). So, put the page back in and leave a placeholder for the graph (also need to add that page to the TOC). We are hoping to get an updated graph we can pop into tomorrow. Thanks!
Hi Mark--
Im out of the office tomorrow at 11:00, so I'll post it in the morning before I leave.
:)
--rhonda
Hi Mark--
InDesign files, linked PSD and image files, along with a PDF of the current file (with the FPO graphs in place) are here:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/36432639/FF_14_Mobile_guide_US%20Folder.zip

Bob will be able to drop the new graphs into place on page 4 when you have them.

Once the final graphs have been finished, please make them available to me so that I can finish up the online PDF and insert links, etc.

Thanks!
--rhonda
Hi Rhonda - Thanks for sending these.
We're expecting to have the graph of performance data (for the Speed of the Web page) ready first thing tomorrow morning. Ty is working on it first thing East Coast time. When it is ready, can you pop it into the rev guide and update the bug with a quick turnaround? Then we'll ship it off asap in the morning.

The performance graph work is being tracked on this bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=763099. I've also cc'd you there.

Let me know if there are any questions - I'm always avail on my cell: 706.836.2313. Thanks!
Ty might be able to help w/this two- linking that bug as "depends on"
Depends on: 763099
Ty, a couple small changes that are "nice to haves" on the rev guide, if you can jump into this Rev Guide tonight or first thing tomorrow:
- On the Get Started Page, can we make the section of favorite websites more clear? Maybe we put it in a box to highlight?
- On the Under The Hood page, first paragraph. Can you add to the last line ", and check out Firefox for Android HTML5 support at http://paulrouget.com/mwc-demos/apis/."

Erica will also be sending a quick update to the copy on the performance graph page "Move at the Speed of the Web". Hopefully that will get approved tonight, if not then tomorrow morning would be great.

Thanks again, Ty
We would also like to make a change to the copy under "Move at the speed of the Web"

So replacing the current copy with:

Firefox for Android is significantly faster than the stock browser that ships on Android phones according to the leading industry benchmarks, such as Sunspider. In addition, we developed a new benchmark, called Eideticker, that measures the actual user Web experience and we built Firefox for Android to it, yielding an experience that is two times faster than the stock browser.

And keeping the 2 existing graphs
thanks for EVERYTHING TY!!!!!!!

Can you please attach the PSD/InDesign file when you get a chance? Thank you!
(adding attachment of new rev guide)

Thank you so much Ty for helping us make these changes! We just need the other file formats to share with the global team if you can add to the bug. Now that we have what we need for press, there's a final step of getting it ready for the press center- I think the only thing we need to do is remove the line we just added from p. 9- "and check out Firefox for Android HTML5 support at http://paulrouget.com/mwc-demos/apis/."- we'd need to host this somewhere else before posting to the press center and I don't think that will happen in time.

Can we get that change made ASAP and then finally close this bug!?!

PR TEAM - We used the PSD file from Rhonda in comment 72 and made these changes in the attached:
1) p. 2- put the suggested websites in a box to make them easier to see
2) Replaced the copy on slide 4 with:
"Firefox for Android is significantly faster than the stock browser that ships on Android phones according to the leading industry benchmarks, such as Sunspider. In addition, we developed a new benchmark, called Eideticker, that measures the actual user Web experience and we built Firefox for Android to it, yielding an experience that is two times faster than the stock browser."
3) We added that line linking to Paul on p. 9- which should be removed from the attached version here and NOT added to the file in comment 72
What's the correct link to the Google Play Store? Not working in US Reviwers Guide. Thank!
I think the correct link to the Play Store will be: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox (once the release is live?)

Also, the link for browserquest.mozilla.org is not working. Should link to:
http://browserquest.mozilla.org/ (remove www)
Thanks Mark - any particular link for the UK?
Jaclyn, do we have a link for the UK?
Hey guys--
I think that the reason that the links are not working in the US guide is because they need to be linked in the PDF once the final PDF has been generated. Ty has been finishing up the final PDF with the correct graphs and copy changes and once he has done this and sent the print version off to press, he can then create a PDF version that has the links that you specified embedded.

Hope that makes sense. :)
--rhonda
And sorry, one more edit to the link to the last sentence of the first paragraph of the Under The Hood page. Can you replace the last URL (http://paulrouget.com/mwc-demos/apis/) with this URL: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/demosdetail/experimental-webapis

Thanks!
Attached file FFA Reviewer Guide_ff14 tagged (obsolete) —
Updated some of the copy and tagged all hyperlinks.

Here is the link to the updated editable InDesign file which was used to create this PDF:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/uz1hw0uqf5pii7z/FF_14_Mobile_guide_US_tagged.zip
Thanks Ty!

The attachment looks great. But it looks like the version in the dropbox zip isn't the same updated version?

Jaclyn, can we change the bit.ly link of Paul Rouget's web api demo so that it points to the demo hosted on Moz's website instead of his own?
Hi Ty, can we just change the last link in the last sentence of the first paragraph of the Under the Hood page with this URL: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/demosdetail/experimental-webapis (per comment 86)

With that, we're final. Thanks!
Also just caught one more copy edit we need to make:
On page 10 (Privacy and Security), The first line of the Do Not Track heading should read "Mozilla introduced Do Not Track to the market and Firefox was the first desktop and mobile browser to offer the privacy feature."

The last few words were cut off.
Made copy changes to DNT section and replaced the link to the demos api.

The updated InDesign file can be found here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/uz1hw0uqf5pii7z/FF_14_Mobile_guide_US_tagged.zip
Attachment #635807 - Attachment is obsolete: true
Thanks Ty!

Everyone - this is now final.
For anyone having issues downloading the PDF, heres a zipped version of the PDF.
Thanks!!
