Steps to reproduce:

Wrote a new message and tried to check the spelling of the text before sending it.


Actual results:

The spell checker button was grayed out and did not respond to mouse clicks. Could not check the spelling.


Expected results:

The spell checker should have opened and run.

The suggestion in Bug # 716481 is a workaround. This bug needs fixing.
