i have one IMAP and a few POP accounts configured in my MailNews.
this problem occurs for at least one of the POP accounts. the
account is configured to leave mail on POP server and delete it
on server if deleted locally. all that works fine. the problem
is that though the message is deleted on the server it is never
removed from the "inbox" file on my system. this file just keeps
growing although when i relaunch mozilla it seems to know not to
show the deleted messages. things go bad if mozilla were to
crash or if i access my message from some other system. then
suddenly all the messages show up again. at this point i use an
editor to clean up the inbox to overcome this problem.
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
unfortunately there is no reliable way to reproduce this problem.
one possibility is to delete a bunch of POP messages, kill the
running mozilla and then relaunch it. the deleted messages should
show up. or of course one could just look at the inbox and see
that the deleted messages are still there. but i do not want to
guess that that is the problem since that might well be an
implementation feature i do not know about!
Actual Results:
in a mailbox of 400 or so messages that i had deleted down to 44,
i saw all 400 messages again.
Expected Results:
mailnews should have come up with just the 44 messages.
Note:
i am using mozilla 0.8 which you warn i should not submit bugs about.
so please feel free to ignore. unfortunately, i could not download a
nightly build from mozilla.org (i get "you do not have permission to
download ... from this server" message if i try to download the
windoze nightly builds from the ftp site).

Reporter, please try again with a current nightly build. This should haven been
fixed a few days ago (compact folder still does not work, though ...).
You can download the nightly builds via anonymous ftp from
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/ .
If you are behind a firewall, you could try to download via HTTP, e.g. from
http://www.mozillazine.org/build_comments/ .
still cannot download nightly builds from ftp.mozilla.org using ftp or http.
i get a "you do not have permission" message. happens only for the windoze
builds. i can download the solaris build without trouble! perhaps this
should be filed as a different bug? ;-)

verifying this as a dup
Reporter,
I would try to download builds tomorrow. They have closed the access to get to
the ftp sever because of some problem which they are looking into it.
