- open mail compose - type a few letters of an email address watch mac lock up for 5 seconds building the auto-complete list. optimized build, 3/14/01. Did something recently change here?
no that I know, How big is your collected addressbook?
On 2001031204 Win2k, I sometimes have to wait 2-5 seconds for autocomplete to pop up too. Changing Platform/OS=All and adding perf keyword.

which file is it? i remember i had a problem like this before and a limit was put in so i pitched my collected abook. Now i'm having the problem again.

If this is because the addressbook (.mab file) is very large, then this is a duplicate.

here's something odd, my abook.mab file is small, and doesn't have very many entries at all. in fact, it doesn't have most of the entires i know autocomplete. is there a different file that stuff goes into now?
AFAIK that's history.mab.
ahh yes. my history.mab has 4834 entries.
They is a pref to limite the size of the history AB but I am not quiet sure it works correctly: preferences/Mail and Newsgroups/Address Books/Limit the Collected Address book to
mine is set to 700. i'm not sure how many entries in my history are actually full, i just counted the total number of slots in the file. seems to me like it's not working, or even if it is, we may be still going through the entire history file.

this does look like a dup of 68778 to me and it looks like pinkerton answered the question I asked in the other bug which is that he has 4834 entries compared to the 700 pref limit. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 68778 ***
