The new universal tab coming in Bug 629699 requires some basic changes to CSS and template HTML. This bug is to get some changes into production before the tab actually launches to simplify the eventual launch.

Not pushing this as QA is still looking at it.
Target Milestone: 1.3 → 1.4
Just to make sure it's clear, this bug and the changes in trunk that go with it shouldn't have any visible effect on the website. These changes just add some CSS hooks required for when the new tab actually does roll out (at a later date).

It still does need QA, of course, to make sure there aren't any unintended changes, but this isn't the actual new universal tab (Bug 629699).

I think it's safer to back out the commit since I think it affects the download pages design and we just released Firefox 10
