On Windows and Linux, renaming objects is typically associated with the F2 keyboard shortcut. In SeaMonkey's new Places-based Bookmarks Manager, renaming objects (bookmarks or folders) is done through the Name field of the details pane (bottom right).

Since bug 674208 landed, the Properties context menu option opens the details pane and focuses the Name field. The same functionality could be bound to F2, optionally with selecting the contents of the Name field.

Since F2 must not be assigned on Mac, we'll probably have to introduce platform overlays for the Bookmarks Manager (similar to how it is handled in MailNews).
