i commented on bug 721273, but taras asked for a new bug for this: Line graph of sessionRestored values from about:startup. It starts with hw accel disabled. You can see a bump where I enabled, and a corresponding drop where I disabled hw accel (via the checkbox in preferences). Average cost of hw accel to browser startup time is ~100ms on this hardware, while restoring a few tabs. http://j.mp/xCDtGa specs: Macbook (not pro), 2ghz core 2 duo, 2gb ram. about:support says '1/1 opengl' for gpu accelerated windows when hw accel is enabled.
