Pre-requisite: activate the new tab feature by modifying the string of "browser.newtab.url" to "about:newtab"
1. Visit 9 sites until the new tab page grid is populated.
2. Pin a site.
3. Move the site to a new position on the grid.
4. Unpin site.
After step 4 (unpinning it), the site returns to the position from step 2.

That behavior is absolutely intentional. The site is unpinned and not anymore forcibly assigned to a specific position and thus returns to its "natural" position.
