Description

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:10.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/10.0
Build ID: 20120104111456

Steps to reproduce:

Have Gmail in an App Tab.
- Log out of Gmail.
- Click the Sign In button on the log out page.

Actual results:

A new regular tab was opened with the Gmail login page. If you sign in on this page in the new tab you are no longer using Gmail in the App Tab. Which kinda defeats the purpose of having an app tab.

Expected results:

The login page should have loaded in the Gmail App Tab.

Probably due to the domains mismatching, being sent from mail.google.com to www.google.com during logout, then linking back to mail.google.com to log back in.

The logout page URL is:
http://www.google.com/mail/help/intl/en/logout.html#hl=en

The login page URL is:
http://mail.google.com/mail/

Yes, generally the idea is that App Tabs be left open and logged in, however it's sometimes necessary to log out or to switch accounts.

WFM on Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.7; rv:13.0a1) Gecko/20120214 Firefox/13.0a1 and also on
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.7; rv:10.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/10.0.1

The process of signing in and out is made in the same pined tab.

I just tried it again with a new blank profile (no add-ons or custom settings) in 11 beta 1 and am still getting the same behavior as reported.
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:11.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/11.0

Also, for the record, signing out of Gmail and clicking the sign-in button in a regular tab does *not* open the login page in a new tab.

Not sure what else to try to isolate this.

Can you please make a video with this behavior to see exactly what is happening?
Thanks

With a couple additional steps, I'm seeing similar behavior now on Firefox 25.0 + Windows 8.1 (x64); it seems to be courtesy of Gmail's new login page.

Steps to reproduce in a clean profile:
- NEW: Set history to clear cookies on exit
- Have Gmail in an App Tab.
- Log out of Gmail.
- NEW: Restart Firefox

Results
- On restart, App Tab opens <mail.google.com/intl/en/mail/help/about2.html>
- Clicking "Sign in" opens Google's new Sign In page <https://accounts.google.com/ServiceLogin?service=mail&continue=https://mail.google.com/mail/&hl=en> in a new tab

Greasemonkey workaround <http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3168944/>:

// ...
// @include https://mail.google.com/intl/en/mail/help/about.html
// ...
window.location="https://accounts.google.com/ServiceLogin?service=mail&continue=https://mail.google.com/mail/&hl=en";
I didn't managed to reproduce this issue on the latest release(43.0.4) nor the latest Nightly(46.0a1).

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:43.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/43.0
Build ID: 20160105164030

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:46.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/46.0
Build ID: 20160114060719

Can you please try to reproduce this on the latest release(43.0.4) and latest Nightly(46.0a1) and provide the results?
When doing this, you could create a new clean Firefox profile, or maybe test in safe mode, as some of this issues may be caused by third party installed addons or custom settings
(https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems).

Thank you,
Vlad

I am also unable to reproduce this issue in 43, using a clean profile, the procedure in Comment 6 above, and additionally setting privacy.clearOnShutdown.history = false (otherwise the App Tab disappears on restart).

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:43.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/43.0
Build ID: 20160105164030

Thank you!

I am now able to reproduce this issue in 43 using a clean profile with all default settings.

Steps to reproduce
1. Navigate to https://www.google.com/intl/en/mail/help/about.html
2. Pin tab
3. Cick "Sign in" at the top right

Expected result: Sign-in page loads in the pinned tab

Observed result: Sign-in page loads in a new tab

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:43.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/43.0
Build ID: 20160105164030
Hi,

After further investigations and thanks to new comments, I was able to reproduce the issue on the latest release(43.0.4) and the latest Nightly(46.0a1) builds.

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:43.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/43.0
Build ID: 20160105164030

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:46.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/46.0
Build ID: 20160124030209

This issue is reproducible on Mac OS X 10.6, on Windows 8.1 and also on Ubuntu 14.04.

Thank you,
Vlad
