does it work in -safe-mode ?

I am working under Windows. As I understand it, there should a Thunderbird safe mode in the menu, but there is not. Only a Thunderbird entry. I managed to start it in safe-mode from the command line. ;-} (I now see there is also an entry in the help menu. But it is there also when in safe-mode. So I need to enter a new bug report.0
It could be that I am wrong. When in safe-mode I see a very brief message in the status line. I can not read it, because it is taken away to soon. But I suppose it is a message about the retrieving of email.
I then tried it again in normal mode. Sometimes I see there also a message when entering Shift+F5, but not always.
I think it would be a good idea to increase the 'time-out' of the message.

It really does not work. I posted a message in a newsgroup. Went to another newsgroup. Gave Shift+F5, but the posted message was not retrieved. When I selected the newsgroup, it was retrieved.

This works for me:
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:10.0) Gecko/20120129 Thunderbird/10.0
Application Build ID: 20120129064000
A similar bug: bug 696240.

Help -> restart with addon disabled will do the safe-mode start, can you try ?
Cecil is your bug for newsgroups only ?

Bug 696240 has just been marked duplicate of Bug 376804.
I think Cecil has already answered that question in comment 6 (in reply to Ludo's same question in comment 5):
> I just checked it for email. Then it does what I would expect. :-D
Iow, it works for email, but it doesn't work for newsgroups.
Which is bug 376804 -> duping
Hey, I'm in the mood for squashing bugs :)
Cecil (reporter), if you feel this bug is not a duplicate of bug 376804, please say why so that it can be reopened if necessary.
> bah, I thought we had more than just one or two bugs about such things -
we do :) -> bug 376804
...which slipped through the net of your search because it was marked ENH (which I've changed to NORMAL now). Also note that "All acounts" may not find the other string "Get All New Messages" which is in the button dropdown.
