From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; 0.8.1) Gecko/20010316 BuildID: 2001031604 viewing a message takes about 5 seconds. address completion in composing a new message takes about 8-9 seconds. all of this slowness is new to this build. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: just bring up mailnews and try to send a message. type in the first few letters of a name in your addressbook in one of the recepients field and wait for address completion to kick in. Actual Results: it takes about 8 seconds to return with a list of possible addresses. viewing any message in any folder (including local folders) takes 5 or so seconds.
Autocomplete slowness is bug 72025

I'm almost sure this is the case in this bug, duplicating. (Thanks bz!) *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 72025 ***

i am not sure that this bug is a duplicate of 72025 from reading the description (of 72025). it shares the slowness of address auto completion with 72025. my symptoms however are larger than just address completion slowness: just trying to read a message takes 6-7 seconds. sending a message (time between clicking on send and disappearance of window) takes 3-4 seconds, etc. i am going to follow the recommendations in 72025 and limit my collected addresses and see if that makes a difference.
the problem has gone from bad to worse :-(. to remove possibility of other problems i restricted collected addresses to 100 and removed the file history.mab (was in the netscape users50 directory!), uninstalled mozilla, downloaded 2001031904 build and here's what i get: 1. mailnews hangs for a while after coming up 2. it does not remember window settings for the message list columns 3. after i enter the PSM password i get the windows "busy clock" pointer at this point i can do a few minimal operations in the mailnews window (unselect columns in messages list, choose servers, etc) but mailnews stays busy and i do not get a message list and cannot proceed past that to reading mail.

just downloaded build 2001032004 and that seems to fix the slowness (though the servers pane on the left does not remember its size, but i can file a different bug for that if necessary) of my IMAP server. another server, a POP server is still slow, but perhaps thats because of network delay (i will investigate and file new bug if it is delay caused by mozilla).

This is fixed by almost all metrics. Please visit www.mozilla.org/mailnews/win_performance_results.html for proof. Compare current data to Netscape 6 RTM. marking verified. We still know about message display performance issues, too.
