While hunting statistical anonminalies in socorro, I noticed that 72% or so of Thunderbird 9.0 crashes have no release channel assigned. As a result, these crashes are not being counted in any aggregate statistics or reports anywhere. This appears to specifically be an issue with 9.0 on Linux (stats below are from Feb 1 crashes): os_name | total_reports | unknown_reports | unknown_pct ------------+---------------+-----------------+------------- | 7 | 2 | 28.57 Windows NT | 61 | 0 | 0.00 Linux | 348 | 299 | 85.92 Compare this to 9.0.1: os_name | total_reports | unknown_reports | unknown_pct ------------+---------------+-----------------+------------- | 549 | 35 | 6.38 Windows NT | 12556 | 334 | 2.66 Linux | 125 | 7 | 5.60 Mac OS X | 642 | 0 | 0.00 Since most Linux distros carry only 9.0 and not 9.0.1., that means that the TB developers have a misleading picture of the crashyness of TB on Linux. Let me know if you need more data to analyze this!
Oh, please note that no release channel is different from "release_channel = 'default'". The latter gets aggregated with the general release, whereas the former gets discarded as "garbage crashes".
Bug 704383 comment #14 says that everything below version 11 doesn't have the fix for this, so it's clear that Thunderbird 9 also doesn't have it. Also, 9 is the old version, and that might just make more startup crashes crop up that show this behavior. Feels to me like there's no bug here.
Kairo, I filed the bug after talking to the TB staff, who do feel that there is an issue, at least one which requires documentation. Also, Ted was talking about Firefox 11, not TB.
... and TB 9.0 is the current production version on Linux.
I'm pretty sure the Thunderbird team shipped 10 to production on all systems. Also, bug 704479 landed on the Mozilla 11 toolkit, which means it's not just in Firefox 11, but also Thunderbird 11 and SeaMonkey 2.8 (and any other stuff based on Mozilla 11).
Ooops, this was resolved back in February. Closing now.
