We should bring more awareness on stability status of the given module by explicitly marking each one via metadata as proposed for application support in bug 725409
Also it looks like nodejs folks are doing similar thing and they already hashed out possible values, so we can just use the same:

I will suggest to close this bug and post the link and the description as comment of bug 725409, otherwise it's too dispersive follow all the discussion.
In the Bug 725409 we're going to define the metadata structure, we already discuss about experimental flag there, that could be replaced by stability.
However, keep in mind that nodejs guy seems using stability flag for the whole module, in our case each platform / application should have its own, even if the module is the same.
