726158 - Checkerboard pattern on load creates the user assumption that browser loads slower

On cold start when the firefox browser loads (v. 11-13), the url header is loaded, and then the content view port is filled with a checkerboard pattern for a few seconds before the blue background of the about:home loads.

On the current nightly builds (2012.02.10) the load sequence goes as follows: checkerboard > black > about:home background

This creates the illusion that the browser load time is slower than our competitors since they use transition tricks.

For instance Chrome Beta loads with a white background instantly, make it appear that the website has begun to load.

Reducing the amount of visual transitions during the launch of an app helps to trick the user into thinking the app is loading faster than it is, and creates more polished product.

Recommended Solution: We load with blue background from about:home by default. If for some reason the browser starts not on about:home the background loaded should be the background of the website and not checkerboard pattern.
